Alexandra Schueller

Assistant Professor

BIOGRAPHY

Alexandra Schueller is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering at the University of Central Florida. Her research focuses on coastal and riverine hazards, nearshore hydrodynamics, coastal geotechnics, reconnaissance science and flood emergency management. She integrates field observations, laboratory experiments and real-time monitoring systems to improve understanding of extreme-event impacts on natural and built environments.

Prior to joining UCF, Schueller served as an endowed professor at the University of Applied Sciences Koblenz, Germany, and as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Applied Coastal Research at the University of Delaware. Additionally, she holds an appointment as guest investigator at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). Before entering academia full-time, she spent more than a decade in public water administration and disaster management in Germany, including leadership roles during the 2021 Ahr Valley flood disaster. She serves on the ASCE Coastal Engineering Research Council (CERC) and leads international initiatives focused on coastal storm reconnaissance, resilience and workforce development.
