Dr. Madani holds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Davis, Master of Water Resources from the Lund University, and B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Tabriz. Before joining UCF, Dr. Madani was a post-doctoral research fellow in Environmental Economics and Policy at the Water Science and Policy Center at the University of California, Riverside. His core research interests and experiences include integrated water, environmental, and energy resources engineering and management. His work includes application of systems engineering, conflict resolution, system dynamics, economics, optimization, and simulation and modeling methods to water, environmental, and energy resource problems at different scales to derive policy and management insights. Dr. Madani is the founder of WaterSISWEB, the founding coordinator of the Hydro-Environmental and Energy Systems Analysis (HEESA) Research Group, and the Faculty Advisor of the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Chapter at UCF. He has been involved in a range of research projects at regional and international levels, including estimating climate change effects on water resource systems and developing climate change adaptation strategies for California, flood management and control in California, hydropower licensing, sustainable water transfers and watershed management, developing management institutions for sustainable management of common pool resources, groundwater management and regulation, and resolution of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, Jordan River, Nile River, and Caspian Sea conflicts. Dr. Madani has been recently selected as one of the ten “New Faces of Civil Engineering in 2012” by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
